My friend MarShondra and I talk about signs and symptoms of depression, when to seek help and a few tips for coping.

Heal. Transform. Thrive.

I have been working with individuals and families in a variety of settings for over 19 years.  Just out of college, I began my professional career serving families in the city of Detroit and I wondered what I would have to offer families with more life experience, and honestly much different life experiences.  Fair question, right? As I was given the honor to be allowed into people’s lives, I came to understand my purpose wasn’t to give advice, it wasn’t to have it more together, it wasn’t to be “ahead of” those I worked with. My purpose was to be present to each person and family I was with for a season; to listen, to elicit their goals, to provide a safe place for them to be themselves, to support them in achieving their goals, to reflect and build on their strengths, to celebrate successes no matter how seemingly small, to laugh and cry through joys and struggles, to challenge (when we had enough of a relationship for me to do that,)-- to honestly and supportively journey with them for a season.

Growth and healing happened organically with these ingredients.

My experiences, training and skills have certainly expanded and matured since my first professional job and realizations nearly 2 decades ago, but my core and foundational understanding of my purpose has not:

When people feel safe to be who they truly are, to uncover strengths that have been present all along, and make a few changes to nurture their goals-- healing and growth happen.

My hope for all clients is not simply change, but transformation.

Over a decade into my decision to follow Jesus and halfway through my graduate counseling schooling, I was introduced to Formational Prayer.  Formational Prayer, I was told is a ministry of the Holy Spirit, to bring healing and transformation to people’s places of deepest wounding. Well, you had me at healing!  This model I soon came to realize was my “it.”  Formational Prayer is based in the power of the Holy Spirit, the Bible and scientific research. Root issues are uncovered, root issues are spoken into by Jesus and people are transformed.

One of the people transformed through this model is myself.  I began a healing journey through this model in 2011, and continue on this journey.  Jesus has identified lies spoken into me, and that became part of my identity, and Jesus spoke His truth into those lies.  I have had undeniable miraculous experiences that have transformed my broken perspective of God. I’ve brutally and honestly lamented feelings around wounds to God and found healing in this process and His responses to me.

These are some of my experiences.  As a fellow traveler, I am overjoyed and honored to accompany those who desire healing and transformation through the power of Jesus Christ.

My passion is to accompany others on a healing journey.

Formational Prayer is a ministry of the Holy Spirit, bringing the Healing Presence of Jesus Christ into places of pain and brokenness within a wounded person facilitated by a Christian caregiver.

Formational Prayer is thoroughly dependent upon the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit. He initiates, directs and empowers the entire process. Thus the recipient of healing and the caregiver (myself) must not only understand the work of the Holy Spirit, but be open to His presence and power for each step along the journey.

Formational Prayer is not a technique controlled by the caregiver. It is a transformational ministry of the Holy Spirit, with the caregiver serving as an instrument of His activity. The spiritual vitality and emotional maturity of the caregiver are important and integrated aspects of this healing process and must be submitted to the Holy Spirit.

Our wounds need healing.  The presence and power of Jesus Christ is the only one who can heal.  His Transforming Presence strengthens and satisfies as nothing else, the one true Source of healing for broken people everywhere. Through Formational Prayer, the Holy Spirit uses a caregiver to position hurting people for what Jesus alone can give.

Life experiences often leave deep wounds that compromise personal well-being and wholeness. Left undressed, these hurts give birth to false beliefs, emotional upheaval, and behaviors that are ultimately destructive. During the process of Formational Prayer, both the source and symptoms of core woundings are brought into the light of Jesus Christ, where He alone can set people free.

Two becoming one is tough.  Communication. Expectations. Finances. Intimacy. Emotional wounds. Attachment styles.  These are just a few of the areas couples can struggle with.  Couples sessions are focused on your unique relationship; identifying areas of struggle, repairing, adjusting and  understanding to establish healthy patterns.

Couples counseling is also available for preventative help in establishing a strong and healthy foundation. In addition I offer maintenance or "tune-up"sessions to recognize strengths and address any trouble spots before they grow.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, who is a Christian.

When my client(s) are receiving Professional Counseling, it is completely up to the client to bring in his or her Spirituality.

When clients are receiving Formational Prayer, God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the foundation and means of healing.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, I am presently offering Michigan residents TeleHealth sessions.

I am available through TeleHealth Mondays 9a-9p, Fridays 9a-4p, and Saturdays 9a-1p, Tu-Th varied limited hours.

*TeleHealth sessions will continue to be available after it is safe to return to the office.*

When it is safe to return to the office,  I am available in office on Mondays; day and evening appointments are available.

I accept major credit cards, cash and PayPal.

I do not accept insurance, as this allows my time to be focused on providing care to clients.

The time that it would take to file claims, follow-up with insurance companies sometimes multiple times is time that I feel is better invested into direct work with clients.

Additionally, a mental health diagnosis which becomes part of permanent health records is required for insurance reimbursement. Sometimes a diagnosis is not applicable to a client's situation.

Also, insurance does not cover couples counseling as there are not medical diagnoses to apply to a relationship.

Since I do not accept insurance, session rates are priced to reflect fair and accessible amounts.

This was my first question when I learned of IMH 20 years ago!  As I learned more about this model, the more I fell in love. Infant Mental Health can best be summarized as support of a strong start for baby and his or her main caretakers.

The foundations of all domains of human development are laid in the first several years of life. Basic to healthy development are the capacities to love, to feel, to develop a sense of self, and to adapt to one’s environment. Infant mental health is the social and emotional well-being of the very young child in the context of family relationships, beginning at birth and extending through the preschool years.

In general, Michigan law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and his or her therapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.

There are some exceptions to this rule which are required by law:

  • Disclosure of suggested abuse or neglect of a minor, dependent adult or elder. All therapists are required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.

  • If a client intends to harm him- or herself. I will make every effort to work with clients to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, or is unwilling to take responsibility for their safety, additional measures may need to be taken.

Let's set up a complimentary initial consultation. You can reach me by email, text or phone.  Feel free to use the form at the bottom of the website!  Please include best day/times to reach you.  I will try to follow-up within 24 hours.
